Abstracted from Deed Book R, pg. 59: Deed dated 16 Feb. 1818, received. 20 April 1818, from Mordecai Shackelford of Abeville Dist. SC, to Samuel Crow of Elbert Co., GA. In consideration of $200, conveys 200 acres in Elbert Co., adjacent to Prothro and Haynes, originaly sureyed & regd. Book YYYY, 25 Aug. 1796. (signed) Mordecia Shackleford. Wit: Joseph Chipman, Thomas (x) Bryan, Abner Ward, J.P. ==================================================== (my notes to above deed: Prothro is most likely James Prothro that witnessed the signing of Samuel Crow's property deed in Franklin Co. GA. Haynes is most likely Moses Haynes. This places Samuel Crow's property almost directly east/northeast [20 miles?] of Royston, Franklin Co., GA, into what was then Elbert Co., and is today Hart Co. GA, on the Savannah River, between Cedar Creek and Powder Bag Creek. Today, this property is likely under Lake Hartwell Reservior, just about where route 8 used to cross into SC from Elbert, now Hart Co. GA, I believe. Mordacia Shackelford's sister was Elizabeth Shackelford Ballard [married James Ballard], that Samuel Crow bought his Franklin Co. GA property from, see Franklin Co. GA Deed Book BB, pg. 76. What ever happened to Samuel Crow's property in Elbert/Hart Co. GA property? Samuel Crow is believed to have been in Elbert Co. GA before 1803, since we believe he drew in the 1806 Lottery in Elbert Co. GA, re: The History of Elbert Co. GA Book. Anyone know if the Shackelfords, Haynes, Ballards, Prothros, and Crows were related?)
