Witnesseth, that for the consideration of one hundred and ninety pounds sterling to the said Elizabeth Cunningham in hand well and truly paid, the receipt whereof are hereby acknowledged, she hath agreed with, bargained, sold, and conveyed unto the said Thomas Oglesby, his heirs, assigns, executors, administrators, or assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying in the aforesaid County and State on Pennington’s Fork (otherways called Doves Creek) containing two hundred and fifty acres originally granted to Joshua Perkins by his Excellency L. [S.?] Elbert the eighth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty—five (8 Apr., 1785) beginning at a pine and running N7OE, 62 chains, 50 links to a p. oak; N2OW, 40 chains to b. oak; and thence, 570W, 62 chains, 50 links to r. oak and a p. oak; and thence, N2OE, 40 chains to the beginning. I, the said Elizabeth Cunningham, do bind myself , my heirs, etc. unto the above mentioned Thomas Oglesby, his heirs, or assigns, to warrant and defend a good and lawful right and title to the said tract or parcel of land against myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns, or any other person or persons whatsoever claiming, unto the said Thomas Oglesby, his heirs, executors, administrators , or assigns, forever. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date above written. N. B. The beginning place on the tract of land above mentioned is not intended to be conveyed. Additional Comments: Thomas Oglesby's first land purchase in Elbert County, made while he was still a resident of Campbell/Buckingham Co., Virginia. This land was first granted to Joshua Perkins of North Carolina in 1785, then sold to John Depriest, then to Elizabeth Cunningham, who sold it to Thomas.
