Higginbotham of the one part and Lemuel Pledger of the ot her part both of the State of Georgia and the county of Elbert Witnesseth that the said George G. Higginbotham for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and forty four dollars and fifty cents to him in hand paid by the said Lemuel Pledger at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, hath granted bargained and sold and delivered and do by these presents grant, bargain and sell and deliver unto the said Lemuel Pledger one certain tract or parcel of land and premises in the county aforesaid on the waters of the Beaverdm creek containing one hundred and forty four and one half acres be the same more or less beginning at a B. oak corner running thence N30.544 to a P. oak corner thence N60W.5 to a P. oak corner thence south S60.E12.50 to a stake corner thence N.60.W.22.50 to a pine corner thence S.25.28.50 to the beginning which said tract or parcel of land was parted and devided out to the said George G. Higginbotham as a legatee of the estate of Col. Samuel Higginbotham decd which said tract or parcel of land the said George G. Higginbotham do covenant to warrant and forever defend from himself his heirs executors administrators assigns or divizees and all every other person or persons claiming or to claim the same in fee Simple so that the said Lemuel Pledger his executors administrators divizees or assigns shall at all times hereafter be quietly and peaceable possessed of the same clear of any incumberance whatsoever In witness whereof I the said George G. Higginbotham sign seal and deliver the within indenture of bargain and sale that he was a subscribing witness and that her also saw Leroy Upshaw and David S. Additional Comments: George Green Higginbotham (1791-1859), son of Rev. Sol. Col. Samuel Higginbotham and Jane Satterwhite of Amherst Co., VA and Elbert Co., GA, married on 20 Feb 1817 in Elbert Co. to Sarah Fortson (1800-1858), daughter of Benjamin Fortson and 2nd wife Elizabeth Gaines. George G. and Sarah moved to Greene Co., AL where he and wife are buried in Clinton Cemetery. George G. was a Major in the War of 1812. [See Fortson History by John W.
