All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Transcribed by Chandler Eavenson 16 April 2006 Deed Moses Mills to Abner Adams The following deed appears in Elbert Co., GA Deed Book V, page 18: "This indenture made this twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred and twenty six between Moses Mills of the one part and Abner Adams of the other part both of the County of Elbert and State of Georgia Witnesseth that the above named Moses Mills hath for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to me in hand paid by the above named Abner Adams the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold and delivered and by these presents doth bargain sell and deliver and forever confirm unto the said Abner Adams his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns all that tract or parcel of land whereon I now live situate lying and being in the County aforesaid containing one hundred and eighty acres bounded as follows (to wit) beginning at a corner on a Road that leads to Elberton thence running bounded by Lawrence M. Adams to Thomas Hilley's corner thence running bounded by the said Hilley to James B. Adams with a reserve of one half acre whereon the Meeting House stands for the use of John Mayfield and Benjamin Thornton trustees, thence bounded by the said Adams to said Road that leads to Elberton thence bounded by John Adams and Richard C. Adams to the beginning with all and singular the improvements and advantages that ____ or hereafter may accrue to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Abner Adams to him his heirs Executors Admrs will warrant and forever defend the same from the lawful claim or claims from all persons whatsoever In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this day and year first above written. his Moses X Mills (Seal) mark Signed sealed and acknowledged in presence of Test Richard Phipps Frankling Cunningham Recorded 4th April 1828" [Submitter's notes: This deed by Rev. Sol. Moses Mills was probably made at the time of or in preparation for his move to Fayette Co., GA. His son-in-law Richard Phipps (married to his daughter Martha Clabourn Mills) and his son James Mills also moved from Elbert to Fayette Co. Abner Adams (1800-1851) was the son of Rev. Sol. Thomas Adams and wife Sarah Ford. Abner had married on 20 Jul 1825 in Elbert Co. to Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Fortson (1810-1839), daughter of Benjamin Fortson and 2nd wife Elizabeth Gaines.]
