All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Transcribed by Chandler Eavenson 4 June 2006 Deed William Blake, Sr. to Orphans of William Mobley Elbert Co., GA Deed Book D, pages 97a, 97b and 98a contain the following: "Know all men by these presents that I William Blake, Sr. of the county of Elbert and State of Georgia being indebted unto the orphans of William Mobley of North Carolina deceased do bargain and agree with said orphans (viz) Allen Mobley, Joseph Huddleston and Sally his wife, Thomas Jones and Gilley his wife, William Mobley and Stephen Mobley, the heirs of said William Mobley deceased and for an in consideration of a clear discharge from them to me, on account of all claims or demands, they now have or ever can have against me on account of the estate of the aforementioned deceased, do bargain and by these presents confirm unto them to be received by them at or after my death (and not before) three negroes and their increase if any therebe to witt Moll, Joe and Fan. Also one half of a negro woman named Sue at the end of fifteen years from now if my present wife be deceased but if she be living, not till after her death and my own But her increase I reserve to myself untill the fifteen years be expired, and on conditions my wife and myself should both depart this life before the fifteen years be fulfilled then and in that case, I do hereby confirm unto the above mentioned heirs of said Mobley, deceased the one half of the hire of said Sue. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand an seal this fifth day of May one thousand seven hundred and ninety six. his Williak X Blake (Seal) mark Test James Bell his Arthur X Jones mark Josiah Allen December the 6 1796 in consequence of the above said bargained the above said negroes delivered unto Joseph Huddleston in behalf of the whole and the above said terms by me. his William X Blake mark Test James Bell Peter Barnett" Also filed with the above document is an indenture made on 22 Mar 1796 wherein William Blake, Sr. conveys to Allen Mobley, both of Elbert Co., for 100 pounds sterling, 125 acres on the north side of Falling Creek. The deed was signed by William and Lucy Blake. The witnesses were William Mobley and Happy Blake. The deed was acknowledged and delivered on 4 May 1796 and witnessed by James Bell, J.P. and Joseph Huddleston. It was registered on 16 Oct 1797. [Submitter's notes: Rev. Sol. William Blake, Sr. (son of another William Blake) was married first by 1766 to a wife whose name is unknown. Known children by that marriage were John (married Martha Moon),William (married Mary Rogers),Sarah (married William Hall) and Alcy (married John Cook). William, Sr. married 2nd on 23 May 1780 in Wake Co., NC to Lucy Allen Mobley, widow of William Mobley. The children of William's first wife, the children of Lucy and William Mobley, and the children of William by 2nd wife Lucy all moved to Elbert Co. William Blake, Sr. was dead by 1 Apr 1798 when his Will was recorded in Elbert Co. Lucy died at age 91 in Troup Co., GA and is buried at Emannus Church cemetery near Hogansville, GA. Other children of William, Sr. were Olive (married Joseph McLendon), Lucy (married an Adkins), Rhoda (married James Rogers, her Will in Jackson Co., GA), Nancy (married Joachim Hudson), Patsy, Happy and Joseph Blake.(Ref: Book "Southern Blakes" by Kate Blake Daus, pub. 1956)] Submitted by: Chandler Eavenson
