1823, August 25—Gwinnett County—That I, Wells Thompson of Gwinnett County have 
for and in consideration of the sum of $5000 Dollars sold unto Archibald Stokes 
of Elbert County, a certain tract of land, an island lying in the Savannah 
River opposite the land of William H. Alston and James Alston on the Georgia 
side of the Savannah River and opposite the land of William Spear and William 
Monketh (sp.) on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River containing 87 ˝ 
acres.  The same originally granted to James Little, the measures of which will 
more fully appear by reference to the plat and grant of the said island.
