Deed Book J, pages 65, 66: This Indenture made this fifth of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four between Dozier Thornton and Betty his wife of the State of Georgia and County of Elbert of the one part and William Gibbs of the said State and County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Dozer Thornton and Betty his wife for an in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby confess acknowledge hath given granted ___ delivered and confirmed unto the said William Gibbs his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Elbert county on the Beaverdam Creek and bounded as followeth Beginning on Thomas Fortsons line where it crosses the said creek at the Bridge thence with said line to his Hickory Corner thence with Richard Fortsons line to a corner Post Oak of Reuben Thorntons thence with his line to Jeremiah Thorntons line and thence with his line to Jarveys old line ___to the said Beaverdam creek and thence up the said creek to the beginning containing one hundred acres more or less together with all houses outhouses edefices gardengs buildings orchard profits commodities emmoliments and heredetaments whatever with their and every of their appertenances unto the said tract or parcel of land belonging or in any wise appertaining with every part and parcel thereof To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land hereby granted or mentioned or Intended to be granted with their and every of their appertenances unto the said William Gibbs his heirs and assigns forever and to the only use benefit and behoof of him the said William Gibbs his heirs and assigns forever and we hereby warrant and will forever defend the aforesaid Land and premises clear of incumberances unto the said William Gibbs and his assigns forever In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our names and affixed our seals this day and date above written.
