Fortson, widow of Jesse W. Fortson, completed an affidavit before the Ordinary of Elbert Co., GA indicating that Jesse W. Fortson was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States and served as a member of Co. F, 38th Regiment of GA Volunteers, that he enlisted in May, 1862, and was in the Virginia Army up to July 1862 when he contracted fever and died within eight days. Other affidavits she signed indicated he died at Staunton, VA. The Archives records reflect she received a Widow's Pension through 1905.
