The following names are contained on a Militia Enrollment List
compiled as required by the Act of 14 Dec 1863 for re-organizing
the Militia of the State of Georgia. The list shows, in addition
to names and ages, the occupations and birthplaces. All on the
list were shown as born in GA except for D. Olds who was born in
New York. All were listed as farmers except for M. H. Sorrow who
was shown as a carpenter. Also shown for some was the type and
condition of the gun they owned and if considered cavalry, how
many horses, saddles and bridles they possessed. There was also
info for some showing "if exempted, for what cause." This submitter
compared the ages shown with other info on birthdates and ages
on census records and it appears that the information shown on
the list could have been compiled a few months prior to Dec. 1863.

At the bottom of the 2 page enrollment list was the statement
"I certify, on honor, that this Roll exhibits a true enrollment of
the 193 (present) Militia Company District, as required by the Act
of 14 December 1863, for reorganizing the militia of the State of
Georgia. Signed: W. A. BROWN, Enrolling Officer." It was also
signed by an Aid de Camp but the writing is illegible to this
submitter. A photocopy of the above document was obtained from
the GA Department of Archives and History.
