O. 20315 and S. C. 13146, reflect the following Declaration of Solder for Pension, War of 1812: State of Alabama, County of Bullock: On this seventh day of June, AD, one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, personally appeared before me, George Williams, Clark of the Circuit Court of Bullock County, a Court of Record within and for the county and State aforesaid, Johnathan Thornton, aged seventy nine years, a resident of the County of Bullock, State of Alabama, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is not at this time married but a widower, that his wife's name was Martha Thornton to whom he was married in Elbert County, Georgia on the twenty sixth day of December, 1816; that he served the full period of sixty days in the (1) military service of the United States in the war of 1812; that he is the identical Johnathan Thornton who (2) was drafted in Captain Gains Thompson's company, Col. David S. Booth's regiment, McIntosh Div., Elbert County, Georgia, the month of October, 1814, and was honorably discharged at Fort Hawkins, Georgia in the month of April, date not recollected, 1815; that (2) I, the said Johnathan Thornton was orderly Sargeant of the Company I belonged to, and went from Fort Hawkins, Georgia in the military service of United States to Mobile, Alabama and served "til peace was made. Applicant says his discharge is lost and therefore is not distinct as to date of discharge, and the last time he recollects seeing discharge - several years ago - which at the time was worn out from handling and in several pieces, that he, at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States, adhered to the cause of the enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort, or exercised the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority, in hostility to the United States; and that he will support the Constitution of the United States; that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, under the provision of the act approved February 14, 1871, and he hereby constiutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Lewis Fullerton, District of Columbia, his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued; that his post office is at Union Springs, County of Bullock, State of Alabama; that his domicile or place of abode is Bullock County. Evans, William Ivey A form entitled "Brief of Claim for a Survivor's Pension" in this file reflects that the applicant enlisted on Nov. 21st, 1814, was discharged May 6th, 1815, and served as Sergt. in Capt. Gains Thompson's Co., GA. Mil., length of service 167 days; Further that claimant was admitted on Feb. 21st, 1872 to a pension of eight dollars per month from Feb. 14, 1871. Another document in the file shows he was receiving the pension in 1874.
