Almost immediately after flowing into Elbert County, Beaverdam was put to work at Winn's Mill. As it made its way to eventual union with the Savannah River, it turned wheels at Teasley's Mill, Pulliam's Mill, Brewer's Mill, Turner's Mill, Adams' Mill, Grogan's Mill, Pearl Mill and Clark's Mill. One of the earliest cotton mills in this section of Georgia was built at what was to become the site for Brewer's Mill in 1852. Beaverdam rebelled with the worst rampage in its history and carried this mill completely away. When its citizens demanded electric lights, Elberton built a power house on Beaverdam Creek with the assurance that the bold creek would furnish enough power for all time. For many years it did supply all the electricity the town needed, but eventually, this was such a minute part of th power demanded that the power plant was abandoned. Again, when its citizens demanded a water system, Elberton turned to Beaverdam Creek, and built a pumping station on its bank. The capacity of the original pumps has of necessity been increased many fold, but Beaverdam still provides the city with water.
