The following article appeared in the 6 Apr 1937 
edition of the Elberton Star newspaper: 

"PEYTON S. HAWES ROTARY PRESIDENT.

"At the meeting of the Elberton Rotary Club today the
election of the following officers were announced to 
serve the ensuing year from July 1: Peyton S. Hawes,
President; Byron Minter, Secretary; George Johnson, 
Sergeant-at-Arms. They were chosen by the board of 
directors chosen last week - consisting of Fred 
Herndon, T. O. Tabor, Jr., John Cook, Hoke Shirley, 
Peyton S. Hawes, Cleve Allen and Clyde Teasley. 
Cleve Allen made the talk at the luncheon today on
the highway patrol law enacted at the recent session
of the legislature which was both interesting and 
instructive."
