Two Hundred Relatives and Friends Gather at Famous Old Homestead and Spend the Day in Social Intercourse-Biggest Dinner Ever Served in This Land of Plenty. "More than one hundred and seventy-five people registered their names in a book at the family reunion of Mr. R. C. Higginbotham last Saturday. And in the free and easy informality of the enjoyable occasion, many who were present failed to register. And every age was represented, from the pretty babies of a few months to Mrs. E. B. Higginbotham, 80 years old, the mother of the son at whose home the reunion was held. "There were many Higginbothams unavoidably absent. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Higginbotham, of Atlanta, failed to arrive at the parental home, and Mr. George Slaton of California, was absent, but was splendidly represented by his wife and two little daughters. Others present whose names were contained in this long article about the reunion were Judge Grogan, Mr. Hunnicutt, editor of the Southern Cultivator of Atlanta, and Smith Norman, a former slave who had nursed Mr. R. C. Higginbotham during the War Between the States and whom Mr. Higginbotham "called attention to...with a pride and reverence that was commendable." The 10 Aug 1917 edition of the same newspaper lited the following as also being in attendance but whose names were omitted from the former article: "Mrs. C. W. Morris, Miss Leo Morris, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Higginbotham, Mrs. W. A. Stowers, Mr. Jesse Rice of Royston, Mrs. H. H. Hulme, Mrs. W. H. Wansley, Mrs Roy Cleveland, F. M Clark, Mrs. M. T. Higginbotham, Misses Marie Edwards, Callie Burden, Alma Rucker, Messrs. L. B. Higginbotham, J. W. Craft, Joe Harper and Thomas Harper." [Submitter's notes: The host was Reuben Carter Higginbotham (1860-1942), son of Rev. Elijah Benson Higginbotham (1838-1912) and wife Frances Elizabeth Carter (1837-1919). Rev. Elijah B.
