Alexander, which occurred Saturday afternoon about 4 o'clock at his home on McIntosh Street. Mr. Alexander had been in declining health for the past year, and at one time had been seriously ill, but had recovered sufficiently to be up and walk about the streets until a short time before his death and to many of his friends it was indeed a surprise, as they had no idea his condition was so critical. He was a native of Elbert County and spent the greater part of his life here and was connected with some of the oldest and most prominent families of the county. He served his country faithfully and bravely through the civil war, and during those trying days, contracted rheumatism that made him a cripple for all subsequent life. Mr. Alexander was a man of influence and popularity. This is established by the fact that for fourteen years, he was Sheriff of Elbert County, and for the past six years, he has filled the office of deputy sheriff, all of which he filled with satisfaction to the people and honor to himself. He was sixty-four years old at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and six children - three sons and three daughters. The sons are all about grown, and are young men to whom their widowed mother and little sister can look for protection and love. Mr. Alexander leaves an inheritance of honesty and fidelity of purpose. He will be greatly missed in Elbert County where he has a large line of relatives and friends. He was laid to rest in Elmhurst Cemetery, Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Stevenson, of the Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Boardman, of the Baptist Church, conducted the funeral ceremonies. A large concourse of friends attended, giving evidence of their esteem and sympathy. The Star extends to the bereaved ones its heartfelt sympathy in this, their hour of bereavement.
