Graveside services for Thelma Elizabeth Bond, 72, who spent most of her life helping people through her work with the Felton Williams Mission, will be at 11 am Thursday at the Concord United Methodist Church in Elbert County, GA. Miss Bond, of 1678 Tanglewood Road, Jonesboro, died Monday. She was secretary of the mission for 47 years before retiring because of ill health. Herbert Mullenix, chairman of the board of the Felton Williams Mission, which collects clothes and food and helps the poor and needy in the inner city of Atlanta, said at one time the mission took in young people who needed a home and that Miss Bond helped in rearing and educating as many as 70 of them. Miss Bond, who also worked as associate director of the mission, once explained in an interview that the Felton Williams Mission was born during the Depression when peoople were lost and hungry. Back in the early days of the mission, she said, "when eggs were selling for 10 cents a dozen and dimes were hard to come by, we used to give away food and coal and let the homeless sleep in the church." Mullenix said Miss Bond committed her life to that end. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Felton Williams Mission, 630 Hill St., Atlanta. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Additional Comments: The deceased, born on 18 Oct 1906 in Elbert Co. was the daughter of Boykin Rayford Bond (1860-1929) and Agnes Sanders (1869-1915), both buried beside her at Concord UMC, Elbert Co.
