Burden The following obituary appeared in the Elberton Star on 7 Apr 1931: "Confederate Soldier Crosses Over Divide. "Mr. J. A. Burden died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. T. Dickerson, on the Elberton-Hartwell road on April 3rd, in his 87th year, after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife,Mrs. Elizabeth Pulliam Burden, who is now 85 years old, seven daughters, Mrs. W. T. Dickerson, Mrs. Ola Thompson, Winterville; Mrs. F. J. O'Kelley, Athens; Mrs. J. D. Phelps, Mrs. J. V. Campbell, Mrs. T. L. Norton and Mrs. S. A. Mererant of Atlanta, and one son J. T. Burden of Comer. Also one brother Mr. Woodie Burden of Ennis,Texas, as well as a number of grand-children and great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. "Mr. Burden was a Confederate soldier, leaving Elbert county the first year of the war between the states. He was Commander of the Confederate Veteran's Camp at Elberton at the time of his death. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church since his young manhood. "Pall bearers - Hoke Dickerson, W. T. Dickerson, James Dickerson, Herman Dickerson, Charles and Dozier Phelps, all grand sons. Funeral services in charge of Rev. A. W. Bussey nd J. C. West.
