HON. JAMES M. CARTER DEAD - HE WAS THE FATHER OF CAPTAIN YANCEY CARTER - 
Hartwell, Ga., May 18 - Hon. James M. Carter, a pioneer citizen of Hart 
county, who died Sunday night at the home of his son-in-law, Rev. Thomas A. 
Thornton, was buried in Elberton last Monday morning. He was 84 years of age. 
He leaves the following children: Captain Yancey Carter, Florence M. Carter, 
chief of police of Hartwell; James Carter, Jr., Mrs. T. A. Thornton, Mrs. 
Homer Mickel, of Elberton, Ga., and the late Mrs. McAlpin Arnold of Elberton.

Cemetery record of Elbert Co., GA show buried at Elmhurst cemetery, Elberton, 
are James Munroe Carter, born 11 Feb 1822, died 13 May 1906, Confederate 
soldier, and Louisa Clark Carter, born 10 Jan 1827, died 21 Oct 1893, wife of 
James M.
