Childs: "Louis [Lewis] G. Childs departed this life in prospect of a blissful immortality on the night of December 18, 1891, in the 87th year of his age. "He was born July 7th, 1805. He married Miss Mary A. Brewer the 26th of April, 1836, and the good Lord blessed their union with eight stalwart sons and four daughters, all of whom - but one - still survive and enjoy the comforts of life, the benediction of benignant heaven. Their descendants - living and dead - number more than one hundred. "He was an acceptable member of the Baptist church for more than fifty years without a single complaint against him. He was strictly honest, defrauded no one in his person or property. He never sued anybody and was never sued, and when he died owed not a cent. His beloved companion stood by him these long years, and tasted with him life's realities, its smiles and its tears, its sorrows and its joys, its sunshine and its storms, and still lives to mourn his loss. She was a helpmate indeed and in truth. "He said before dying that there was a crown laid up for him at God's right hand in heaven. He was ready and anxious to go and receive it. "Peace to his ashes. Dec. 24, 1891. J.A.C. " [Submitter's notes: According to the Childs Family History and Genealogy, published 1994 by Julia Brown Hazelwood, the children of Lewis Glaze Childs and Mary A. Brewer were Horatio G., John Benjamin, Hugh M., Margaret Catherine, Sylvanus Glaze, Lewis Seaborn, Susan Frances, Martha Jane, James Dunston, Sarah Ann, William Newton and Robert Ira Childs.] Submitted by: Chandler Eavenson
