A. Fortson, Sr., retired health inspector for the City of Atlanta, died Saturday, December 6, 1958, at his home, 1792 Wade Ave., NE. He had been in ill health for about nine years. "Mr. Fortson was with the City for 27 years prior to his retirement in 1949. He was 76 years old. Born in Elbert County, Mr. Fortson had lived in this area for 48 years. He was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church where he was active in the Crusaders Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World. "Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 AM at Trinity Chapel. The Reverend Paul Akin and the Rev. Bill Rick will officiate with burial in Mellwood cemetery. "Survivors include his wife; daughters Miss Louise Fortson, Mr. R. K. Hull of Atlanta, Mrs. William G. Kroll of Midland, MD, Mrs. William M. Bradley, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Mrs. William W. Stotts of Decatur, Mrs. Roy G. Gallinger of East Point; a son William A. Fortson, Jr.; sisters Miss Sallie Fortson, Mrs. Leon Eavenson of Atlanta, Mrs. Lester D. Hewell, Sr. of Elberton, and a brother George Fortson of Smyrna; ten grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Pallbears will be Mr. Chandler Eavenson, Mr. Fred Vickery, Mr. James Vickery, Mr. James Drennon, Mr. Griff Gaines and Mr. Ernest Gaines. A.S.Turner and Sons in charge."
