"We are again called upon to mourn the loss of a dear and beloved member. This time it is Brother Asa Chandler Fortson who departed this life on January 24th, 1906. Bro. Fortson was born August 21st, 1847 and would have been 59 years old if he had lived until August of this year. He leaves a wife and several children as well as a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death. He was a consistent member of Harmony Baptist Church and died a staunch believer in that faith. So our Church has lost one of her true and faithful members - one who was true to his convictions and faithful to his obligation. But his health would not permit him to attend his Church regularly during his last years, but we beleve he was sincere and humble in his religious devotion. "Therefore, be it Resolved 1st That we as a Church extend our heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family and relatives and pray God's richest blessing upon them. Resolved 2nd that these resolutions be placed on our Church record and a copy be sent the family. Also that a copy be furnished The Elberton Star for publication. " Respectively submitted. Committee George W. Hulme, H. S. Hansard, George M. Ward, Jr. "Read and adopted in conference on Saturday, Aug 4th, 1906. Rev. T. J. Rucker, Mod. Geo. W. Hulme, Clerk."
