This file was contributed by: Chandler Eavenson http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00030.html#0007294 ================================================================== The following obituary appeared in the Elberton Star in March 1919: "Old Confederate Joins His Comrades - Mr. Ed Fortson, old Confederate veteran, good citizen and beloved friend and relative, died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cleveland Webb, on South Oliver St. He was buried yesterday at Doves Creek church cemetery. His funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. T. J. Rucker, assisted by Rev. A. W. Bussey. Mr. Fortson was 79 years old and is survived by his wife and eleven children: W. R., Walter, Elijah, Sam L., Carey and Luke Fortson and Mrs. Blanchard and Mrs. Beasley, of Columbia county, Mrs. Pope Deadwyler, Mrs. Carl Wilhite and Mrs. Cleveland Webb of Elbert County." [Submitter's notes: Moses Edward Fortson (1840-1919) married on 19 Feb 1867 in Elbert Co. to his cousin Lucy J. Fortson (1847-1920). Moses was the son of Jesse Marion Fortson (1812-1864) and wife Frances Mills (1817-1901), daughter of William Mills and Nancy Brown, and the great grandson of Revolutionary Soldier Lt.
