Louise Dutton Gaines, 78, formerly of Elberton, died Saturday, December 11, 
2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens.

Born in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin “Cal” Dutton and 
Sara Elizabeth Strickland Dutton. Mrs. Gaines was a member of Cokesbury 
Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Martha Yarbrough, Carlton, Velvet Appleby, 
Elberton, and Wendy Holloway, Comer; two sons, Frank Gaines, Elberton, and 
Gary Gaines, Carlton; three step-daughters, Lavonia Todd, Bowman, Sarah 
Wansley and Betty Mullenix, both of Elberton; one step-son, Clyde Gaines, 
Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Ellen Fowler, Royston, Nina Neece, Lavonia, and 
Barbara Brown, Danielsville; three brothers, Fletcher Dutton, Lavonia, Joe 
Dutton and Billy Dutton, both of Elberton; eight grandchildren; seven great-
grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 13, in the Memorial Chapel of 
Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. James F. Creason and Paul Hood officiating. 
Burial was in the Carlton City Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews were 
pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Carlton City Cemetery or a charity of one’s 
choice.

Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, was in charge of arrangements.
