Atlanta Constitution, 7 March 1886: 

Elberton, GA, March 6 - [Special.]- Major 
Henry H. Harper, a prominent citizen of 
Abbeville county, S.C., died on last Thursday morning.  Major 
Harper was well known in this county, and has a brother and 
many relatives living in Elberton.  Colonel George R. McCalla, 
also of Abbeville county died on Friday morning.  Both of these 
gentlemen lived on Savannah river and were well known in 
Elbert.  Colonel McCalla married here and has a son and two 
daughters living in this county.  He was a brother-in-law of Hon. 
Wm. H. Mattox.
