Herndon, one of Elbert's most prominent citizens, died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Isham H. Thornton,last night, of paralysis. Mr. Herndon had been quite an influential and useful man, quite prominent in church affairs for half a century. He was buried at Falling Creek Baptist church this afternoon with Masonic honors. Additional Comments: Elbert Co. cemetery book shows Thomas Jefferson Herndon, born 3 Aug 1823, died 26 Jan 1895 [Note: Both the Strickland book and the Fortson Family History give his death date as 1896], and Sarah Ann Terrell Herndon, born 17 Sep 1823, died 14 Apr 1906, both buried Falling Creek Baptist Church. Elbert Co. marriage records show Thomas J. Herndon and Sarah Ann Terrell were married on 20 Oct 1842. He was a Confederate soldier.
