Atlanta Constitution, 29 Dec 1909
Elberton, Ga., December 28 - Mrs. Lavonia Jones died here this morning about 4 
o'clock. She is the widow of the late John H. Jones, one of Elbert's most 
prominent and beloved citizens, and mother of  W. O. Jones. T.A.Jones, Mrs. 
Lavonia Gardner, Mrs. H. M. Heard, Mrs. J. J. Burch and Miss Nora Jones. She 
had reached the ripe old age of 84, and was greatly beloved. The interment 
will take place tomorrow. 

Additional Comments:
Elbert Co. marriage records show Samantha Lavonia E. Hammond and John H. Jones 
were married on 19 Dec 1843. Records for Rehoboth Baptist Church in Elbert Co. 
show burial of John H. Jones, born 11 Oct 1816, died 23 Sep 1899, Confederate 
soldier, with a note in cemetery book that a fieldstone next to his grave 
might be Lavonia Hammond Jones, born 12 Mar 1827, but with an incorrect death 
date of 27 Feb 1909 shown.
