The Elberton Star newspaper, issue of 26 Oct 1932, had the 
following obituary: 

"MR. J. T. MCLANAHAN CLAIMED BY DEATH
Mr. J. Thos. McLanahan, native and lifelong resident of Elbert
County, good citizen and successful farmer for half a century,
died at his home on South McIntosh and Adams streets Sunday 
morning at 2 o"clock, following a long illness resulting from
a stroke of paralysis. Mr. McLanahan was 76 years of age. 

"He was laid to rest in Elmhurst cemetery Monday morning. The 
funeral services wee conducted at the home by Rev. Henry T. 
Brookshire, assisted by Revs. J. W. O. McKibben and Hal R.
Boswell. 

"Mr. McLanahan is survived by his widow and the following 
children: John J. McLanahan, Mrs. Herbert Hedquist and Miss
Annie McLanahan of Elberton, and Ben and Asbury McLanahan of
Calhoun Falls."
