DEATH – Mr. Jonathan G. Nelms, an old resident and much respected citizen died at his 
home in this county on Saturday evening last.  Mr. Nelms was Sheriff of this county for 
thirteen years, and had many warm friends.  He was buried on last Monday with Masonic 
honors.

Note:  Jonathan G. Nelms was Sheriff of Elbert County in 1860 and served 
in the 3rd Georgia Cavalry Bttn. State Troops, my gr-gr-grandfather.
