D. Thornton, age 56 years, died at his home near Indian Hill Sunday night about 8 oclock. He has been in failing health for several months. About a week ago he had hemorrhage of the bowels, since when his recovery was despaired of. Mr. Thornton was one of the best farmers and citizens of the county, quiet but firm in his conceptions and loyal to his convictions. He was a member of the Baptist church for a number of years and took an active interest in every department of church work. He is survived by his wife and seven children, viz: Mrs. Jim Blanchard, Mrs. Dave Cliatt, Mrs. John McLanahan, Oscar, L. M., Coile and Conner Thornton. His remains were buried at Falling Creek church Monday afternoon. Additional Comments: Joseph Dozier Thornton, born 3 Nov 1857, died 23 Jun 1912, married on 19 Dec 1877 to Elizabeth "Betty" Fortson, born 19 Aug 1860, died 7 May 1939. Their children were Jesse D., Pearl E., Eula L., Oscar J., Birdie J., Lucius M., Conrad W. and William Coile Thornton. Joseph Dozier Thornton was the son of Dozier Thornton (1817-1874), youngest child of Benjamin Thornton, Sr., and Jane M. Fortson (1819-1889), daughter of Jesse Fortson and Mary Ballinger White.
