Thornton, 76 years old, one of the best and most highly esteemed citizens of Elberton, died at his home on Tate Street early Wednesday morning after an illness extending over several months. Mr. Thornton is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Grover Cleveland, Mrs. Norma Bell and Mrs. Wade A. Thornton of Elberton, Mrs. Emory Adams of Atlanta, and Mr. Edgar Thornton of Augusta. The funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church Sunday morning at 11 oclock by his pastor, Dr. W. A. Wray. Hundreds of friends were in attendance and the floral offerings were beautiful and numerous, attesting the love and confidence of hundreds of friends. The interment was in Elmhurst cemetery. Additional Comments: Frank Calloway Thornton, born 24 Sep 1854, died 22 May 1929, was the son of Dozier Thornton (youngest child of Benjamin Thornton, Sr.) and Jane M. Fortson (daughter of Jesse Fortson and Mary Ballinger White). He married on 18 Feb 1880 in Elbert Co. to Lola M. Black, born 17 Feb 1861, died 3 Nov 1939. Their children were Edgar Frank, Norma Louise, Nathleen, Carmen Ella and Grace Rossue Thornton.
