D. Thornton died Thursday afternoon at his home in Bowman. His body was buried at the cemetery of Falling Creek church by the side of his wife this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted at the church by his pastor, Dr. William H. Rich. He was buried with Masonic honors. Mr. Thornton was 83 yars old and was born and raised in this county and spent his entire life here except while in the Confederate army. He was one of the best and most substantial citizens of this community, loved and respected by all who knew him, as an upright Christian gentleman. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. S. B. Adair of Bowman. Additional Comments: Thomas D. Thornton was born on 4 May 1839, died on 6 Apr 1922,the oldest child of Dozier Thornton (youngest child of Benjamin Thornton, Sr.) and Jane M. Fortson (daughter of Jesse Fortson and Mary B. White). He married on 24 Jan 1868 to Sarah Ann Elizabeth "Bena" Herndon, born 27 Mar 1845, died 1 Aug 1912. The children of Thomas and Sarah were Augusta Thornton (1870-1948), wife of Dr. Samuel Brownfield Adair, Dentist (1858-1926), and C. B. Thornton (1871- 1878).
