"Mr. W. E. Thornon died at his home near Rock Branch church last Saturday morning about 4 o'clock. He was 87 years old, one among the oldest citizens of the county. He was next to the oldest son of the late Rev. Benjamin Thornton, and out of a large family of children, is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Arnold, and one brother, M. J. Thornton, Sr. He leaves a wife and a large family of children, and a large family connection. "Mr. Thornton lived a quiet and unostentatious life. He was a member of Rock Branch church, and was genearally regarded one of the best men in his community. "The funeral at Rock Branch Sunday was attended by one of the largest gatherings ever seen at this place on a similar occasion. "Mr. Thornton was stricken with paralysis a few days before his death."
