Wansley was born in Elbert county, GA in the year 1833 and joined the Methodist Church at Concord while he was yet a young man, married in 1856 and died at Ruckersville, his home, February 4th, 1924, and was buried by the side of his wife in the cemetery at Ruckersville Methodist Church February 5. Four years of his life was spent in the defense of his beloved southland during the war between the states, while the remainder of his life was devoted to the care of his family and, to the edification of all with whom he comes in contact. His wife, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Adams, died several years ago. Mr. Wansley was a good man, living daily close to his Master, and he spent the last years of his life in daily reading of the Bible. This he read through twenty-five or thirty times before he died. He loved truth, honor and sobriety, and lived before the world in a manner that is characteristic of the true Christian. He was over solicitous of the material and spiritual welfare of his community, and his counsel and advice will be remembered by many in the years to come. He was the father of ten children, six of whom survive him. They are, Messrs. L. H. and T. J. Wansley, Mrs. J. W. Haley, Mrs. C. B. McMullan, Mrs. Jasper Bryan and Miss Eliza Wansley. He also had a great number of grandchildren, six of the boys acting as pall bearers at his funeral, while the girls had charge of the floral offerings. A number of great grandchildren also survive him, and four great-great grandchildren, and to these he left the greatest heritage that any man could possibly leave and that was "He walked with God." Additional Comments: He was the son of Fleming Wansley and Becky Patterson. He was married on 12 or 13 Feb 1856 in Elbert Co. to Mary Elizabeth Adams (1835-1916), daughter of Nicholas Meriweather Adams (son of Rev. Sol. Thomas Adams and Sarah Ford) and Drucilla Hunt.
