Delmar Lanier “D.L.” Watkins, 71, of Elberton, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, 
at his residence.

Born in Cherokee County on December 10, 1934, he was the son of the late James 
Vasco and Alice Theodocia Fowler Watkins. He worked in the granite industry 
and was a member of the Doves Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Watkins was a veteran, 
having served in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Elizabeth Martin Watkins, Elberton; sons, 
Michael Watkins and Mark Watkins, both of Elberton; daughters, Peggy W. 
Mercado and Marilyn Diaz, both of Elberton, and Crystal Miskinis, Augusta; 
grandchildren, Wendy Watkins, Kathy Waters, Malina Crammer, Craig Jordan, 
Nicholas Mercado and Terry Brantley; and a sister, Eva James, Athens.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 23, in the chapel of Pruitt 
Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Todd and Jack Findley officiating. Burial was 
in Dove’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike, Mark, Craig, 
Buck, James and Domingo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
