The following newspaper obituary was published following
the death of Sallie Lane Fortson Wilkinson on 29 Jan 1941: 

"Mrs. J. J. Wilkinson Dies at Tignall Home

"Mrs. J. J. Wilkinson, aged 76 years, died at 6 o'clock
Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. F. 
Dill in Tignall. 

"A native of Wilkes County, she was before her marriage
Sallie Lane Fortson, eldest daughter of the late Rev. 
John Fortson, beloved pastor of Wilkes County. Her 
husband, J. J. Wilkinson, who was a prominent farmer and
business man of Tignall, died seventeen years ago. 

"Mrs. Wilkinson had not been strong for several years, 
and died from pneumonia early Wednesday morning. 

"Funeral services were held from the home at 3 o'clock
Thursday afternoon with the Rev. M. J. Bruce officiating. 
Interment was at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

"Survivors are seven daughters and three sons: Mrs. W. P. 
Dill, Mrs. Dan Thornton, Mrs. J. W. David and Mrs. J. W. 
Bobo, of Tignall; Mrs. Frank S. Fortson of Elberton; Mrs.
Martin Fortson of Thomson; Mrs. Emory Tankersley of 
Winfield; Howard Wilkinson and J. F. Wilkinson of Tignall, 
and Joe Wilkinson of Clovis, New Mexico, and 25 
grandchildren. 

[Submitter's notes: Sallie Lane Fortson (1865-1941), 
daughter of Rev. John Henry Fortson (CSA) and Julia 
Isabelle Anderson, married John Joe Wilkinson (1861-1923)
on 12 Dec 1880. John Henry Fortson was the son of 
Jesse Marion Fortson and Frances Mills of Elbert Co.]
