A marker was erected for him at Concord UMC cemetery where many of his descendants are buried. He served as a Pvt. in Capt. Joseph Mendenhall's 2nd Co., Pennsury Township, Chester Co., PA militia, 3rd Btn., commanded by Lt. Col. John Hannum, 1781. Eli had married Rachel Seal (1760-1830) on 30 May 1782 at Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, DE, across the river from Chester Co. Eli and Rachel being members of Quaker congregations, they were both disowned for being married by a non-Quaker minister. Perhaps this influenced their decision to migrate southward to Elbert Co. ca 1790. The Strickland book indicated they came to Georgia from Virginia in a covered wagon with their son and two of their three daughters in a covered wagon, crossing the James River on the ice. Eli's parents, George and Mary Williamson Eavenson, were also married at Old Swedes Church in 1755. Rachel Seal was the daughter of William Seal II and Susannah Temple.
