The Elberton Star, 18 May 1889
A large crowd attended at the Methodist church on the evening of Sunday, the 
5th instant, to witness the marriage of our young friends, Mr. A. H. 
Strickland and Miss Sexta Eavenson. The house was tastefully decorated, the 
work having been done on Saturday evening under the supervision of Mrs. 
Roberts and Mrs. Looney. Precisely at 8 o'clock Mrs. Looney struck the first 
notes of the Wedding March, when the wedding party entered and filed right and 
left through the aisles. Rev. J. H. Baxter, of Elberton, performed the 
ceremony in an eloquent and impressive way, followed by an able and 
appropriate prayer from Rev. J. A. McMullan, pastor of the Bowersville Baptist 
church. The attendants were as follows: Prof. Moore with Miss Myrtie Looney, 
both of Bowersville; Mr. Foster Blackwell, of Lavonia, with Miss Fannie 
Snellings, of Elberton; Mr. Bodie Mathews, of Hartwell, with Miss Nora 
Eavenson, of Bowman; Mr. Mortimer Looney, of Bowersville, with Miss Viola 
Duncan, of Elberton. Thus were united in the holy bonds of wedlock a couple 
for each of whom we cherish scatiments of esteem and love. May their life 
together be one un---- day, and when the day is done may its setting sun but 
herald the dawn of a ----.

Additional Comments:
Eugenia Sexta Strickland, born 2 July 1868, the daughter of John William 
Eavenson and Jane Josephine Oglesby,lived to be over 100 years of age. Her 
husband A.H.Strickland died on 28 Jul 1926 at their home in Union Springs, AL.
