Fortson, Administrator of the estate of Jesse M. Fortson, applying to the court for appointment of persons to set apart to the widow and children of Jesse M. Fortson the amount necessary for a year's support. On 7 Nov 1865 the court appointed D. Thornton, R. Fortson, James Almand, E. B. Tate, Sr. and John W. Black. The amount set aside had a total value of $600.00, itemized as follows: "1 bay horse $40.00 2 cows 20.00 2 sows and pigs 12.00 4 sheep 4.00 1 buggy & harness 30.00 50 barrels corn 187.50 10 bushels wheat 15.00 Loft of fodder 12.00 1 house of shucks 5.00 1000 lbs. of pork 60.00 40 gallons syrup 8.00 1 sack of salt 5.00 Money due in remainder 200.00 Whole Amount $600.00" The appointed persons, Richard Fortson, James Almand, E. B. Tate and Dozier Thornton, filed a report to the Court of Ordinary and it was recorded on 1 Jan 1866 by W. H. Edwards, Ordinary. [Submitter's notes: The widow receiving the 12 months support was Frances Mills Fortson ((1817-1901), widow of Jesse Marion Fortson (1812-1864).
