Will Book 1803-1806, page 56. The recorded version spells his name Larken instead of the correct Larkin: "Elbert County: In the name of God Amen, I, Larken Gatewood of the County aforesaid being weak in body but of sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the and calling to mind the mortallity of my body, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, revoking every other Will by me made heretofore - First I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my executors who I shall hereafter mention- Item I desire that all my just debts be paid - Item I lend to my dearly beloved wife Catherine during her natural life my whole estate both real and personal and at her death to be equally divided amongst my three daughters (to witt) Amy Upshaw, Mary Higginbotham and Dolly Higginbotham, share and share alike and is to them and their heirs forever - Item I give to my daughter in law Betsy Gatewood - on cow and calf to be received when my daughters or their heirs receives there legacys - Lastly I appoint my well beloved wife Catherine my executris and my three sons in law (to witt, John Upshaw, Benjamin Higginbotham and Francis Higginbotham executors to this my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two.
