All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Chandler Eavenson http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00030.html#0007294 May 4, 2007, 1:38 pm Source: Elbert Co., Ga Wills, 1803-06, Page 56 Written: October 2, 1802 Recorded: June 4, 1806 "In the name of God Amen I Tabitha Hollyday of the State of Georgia and county of Elbert, being infirm and weak in body but in perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto almighty God and now calling into mind the mortality of my hody and knowing it is appointed for me and all people once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth, to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my friends - And touching worldly property, I give and bequeath and dispose of in the following manner Viz 1st I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Gatewood forty three dollars cash to be made out of my estate. 2nd I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Rowsey seventeen dollars to bear interest from this day and date in cash to be made out of my estate. 3rd I give and bequeath unto my negroes that is to say Faraoh and Sarah their freedom and for them to choose a guardian to act and do for them to get their emmancipation according to law as soon possible. 4th The balance and all the rest of my property after my just and lawfull debts is paid paid I give and bequeath unto my two daughters that is to say Betty Gatewood and Mary Rowsey to be equally divided. 5th I leave John Ham and Absalom Stinchcomb Executors of this my last Will and testament and I do hereby utterly disclaim and revoke and disannul all and every Will, testament, legacy and Executors by me made heretofore, ratifying and confirming this and no other my last Will and testament. [Additional information: Tabitha Collins, born ca 1727, probably in Spotsylvania Co., VA, was married three times: (1) to Edmund Foster by whom she had 2 known children; (2) to Henry Gatewood, no children; (3) to John Marshall Holliday/Hollyday, no children. She was last widowed in 1781 and moved to Elbert Co. ca 1790, probably with the family of her daughter Mary Foster, married to John Rowsey, Sr. An Inventory of her estate was made on 26 Apr 1806 by John Upshaw, Sr., Francis Higginbotham and William Crittenton before Absolom Stinchcomb, J.P.. said inventory totaling $1603.25 and including slaves Aaron, Moses, Kitturah, Frederick, Lucy and Fl___ or Ho___, plus numerous items of household goods and one cow and calf.
