Will Book 1835-60: "Georgia, Elbert County) In the name of God, Amen. I, Thomas Wanslow, of the State of Georgia, and County of Elbert, being diseased in body, but of disposing memory and mind, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, in manner and form, revoking all others heretofore made by me. "Item I - It is my will and desire that all my property, both real and personal, shall remain in the possession of my beloved wife Jemima during her lifetime, or widowhood, with the exception hereafter named, and at her death, or marriage, for my property that may then belong to my estate, both real and personal, to be divided equally betwixt my beloved sons and daughters, share and share alike, with exception hereafter made in this item, and if the property should be so situated that an equal division cannot be had, then it is my desire that the whole of the prooperty be sold, and the money equally divided, with the exception of the above named, betwixt my children (viz) "Tandy McGee Wanslow has had the worth of one hundred dollars, John William Wanslow one hundred fifty dollars, Thomas Jefferson Wansley has had one hundred dollars, Augustus Marion Wanslow has had one hundred dollars, Reuben Ransom Wanslow, fifty dollars, Martha Amanda Wanslow fifteen dollars, Hugh Sanford Wanslow, Mary Wanslow. "Item - It is my will and desire that as my children marry, or become of age, that there be given each one of them a horse, bridle and saddle, worth one hundred dollars, to be valued by two or more disinterested persons, to be taken out of my estate, willed to my wife, Jemima so that they may all be made equal with those that have had. Item - It is my will and desire that the sum of five dollars in cash be given my granddaughter Jane Ann Wanslow when a distribution of my estate is made. "Item 5 - It is my will and desire, and I do hereby constitute and appoint Wm. M. Barrett, and my son, Augustus Marion Wanslow my executors of this my last will and testimony. "In testimony whereof, I have affixed my hand and my seal in the presence of Thos. Johnson, Thos. M. Rowzee, Thos. Steadman, this July 24, 1846. His Thomas X Wanslow Mark" [Submitter's notes: Thomas Jefferson Wansley's marker in the Wansley- Beck Cemetery in Elbert Co. shows he was born in Albemarle Co., VA on Apr 29, 1783 and died Jul 23, 1848, and was a Pvt. in Maj. Freeman's Cav., Ga Militia, War of 1812. His wife Jemima Means Wansley's marker states she was born in Ga. Aug 6, 1790 and died Dec 21, 1858. She was daughter of William Means. Their family Bible reflects two children not named in the above Will, i. e. Wiley Jones and Elizabeth Ann.
