All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Chandler Eavenson http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00030.html#0007294 WILL - Reuben White, 30 Jan 1820 The following Will appears in Elbert Co., GA Will Book L, pages 352-353: "In the name of God Amen, I, Reuben White of the county of Elbert and State of Georgia being sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding (praised be God for it) and considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of this time thereof and to the end I may be the better prepared to leave this world whenever it shall please God to call one hence, do therefore make and declare this my last Will and testament in manner following that is to say first and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God my creator, hoping for free pardon and remission of all my sins and to enjoy everlasting that privilge in the heavenly kingdom through Jesus Christ my saviour my body I commit to the earth at the discretion of my Executors herein after named and as touching such worldly state as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I do give demise and dispose of in the following manner Item I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Elizabeth White all my land and premises whereon I now live also the slaves that I now possess also the stock of all kinds to be her lawfull right and property and at her disposal during her natural life or widowhood but if she shall remarry again in that case it is my will that an equal division of my estate shall take place and that my wife Elizabeth shall have an equal or childs part with the rest of my children and it is further my will that while my wife continues in her widowhood that she give of to my children as they marry such property as she can spare to them without dis____ of herself and I give unto my beloved daughter Sarah Moore one negro girl named Rhoda at three hundred dollars also one feather bed and furniture to the value of fifty dollars. Also one sorrel filly mare at one hundred dollars which said property my daughter and son in law Elijah Moore have already received and of my Estate it is my will that the rest of my children be made up equal with those that have already received a part before a general division shall take place And as touching the case of my faithful servant Joe it is my will during the faithful discharge of his duty and good behavior towards my family that he shall be paid and receive by my executors hereinafter named five dollars annually so to continue until a general division takes place in my estate and during his life to be paid to him, and I do hereby appoint my friend James Clark and William White executors and my wife Elizabeth White executrix of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke and disannul all other Wills and bequests by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day January 1820. Test Robert Roebuck Jeremiah Lewis Asa Mann" "Georgia, Elbert County) Court of Ordinary March Term 1820 personally appeared in open court Jeremiah Lewis and Asa Mann and after being duly sworn say that they were present and saw Reuben White sign seal and acknowledge the within instrument of writing as his Last will and testament and that he the said testator appeared to be of sound mind and memory at the time he executed the same and that they together with Robert Roebuck subscribed their names as witnesses to the same and in the presence of the said Testator and at his request. Jeremiah Lewis Asa Mann Sworn to in Court his 6th of March 1820 Whereupon it was order to be recorded. Test Job Weston, C.C.O. Recorded the 7th of March 1820, Job Weston, C.C.O." [Submitter's notes: Reuben White was born 3 Mar 1776 in VA, died 22 Feb 1820 in Elbert Co., married 12 Dec 1798 to Elizabeth Betsy Head, born 5 May 1782, died 8 Jun 1848, she a native of Orange Co., VA and buried at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, Upson Co., GA. Reuben was the son of John Martin White (1743-1833) and Mildred Thornton Ballenger, daughter of Joseph Ballenger and Sarah Franklin.
