WILLIAMSON Generation No. 1 SOLOMON R. (ROSTON?) WILLIAMSON, son of John WILLIAMSON and Elizabeth SULLIVAN, was born October 17, 1823 in Emanuel County , GA, and died December 10, 1901 in Emanuel County . He married (1) DELILA TRAPNELL 1850, daughter of Elijah TRAPNELL and Theresa HULL. She was born May 18, 1832 in Burke County, GA(?), and died November 09, 1876 in Emanuel County. He married (2) CLARISSA CALHOUN July 09, 1878 in Emanuel County , GA - Book B2, page 14 (by S.D. Proctor, JP), daughter of Samuel Hargroves CALHOUN and Lucinda HAMILTON. She was born January 04, 1858 in Tarrytown, Montgomery County, GA, and died January 22, 1950 in Emanuel County , GA. Solomon and both wives are buried in the Solomon Williamson Cemetery on their homeplace near Oak Park. "In a series of letters written in 1874-1875, by Rev. G.W. Smith...'Saturday, 30th, we met with a small crowd at brother Sol Williamson's school house, and at 12 o'clock I preached from the 9th verse of the 21st chapter of Numbers. Good order prevailed during service. In this section of the country I am acquainted with the majority of the people. At 8 A.M., we arrived at brother J.J. Williamson's, Montgomery County, where I met with a cordial reception. Sabbath morning at 11 o'clock I preached at Williamson's Arbor, a large water oak tree. Subject: "God's purpose to save his people. Effected by instrumentality." This is a place that I often have visited. It was here that I received my two first applicants for the ordinance of Baptism, and this is one neighborhood that certainly needs a church. I know of no place, that people go farther to church than this, and I say to the brethren, that you are able to build, and there are members amply sufficient to constitute a church, and why procrastinate longer? Build a house of worship, parents, for the benefit of your children, if nothing else will prompt you, your duty to them should...'" NOTE: J.J. (John J.) and Solomon were brothers. Solomon Williamson fought in the Indian War of 1840- 41. He served the Confederacy in the War Between the States in the capacity as Justice of the Peace and Judge of the Inferior Court of Emanuel County, Captain Joel J. Moring's Company, Emanuel Troops for Local Defense (Home Guard). He held regular court sessions in his home (See court order granting him a license to sell liquor at these court sessions). Solomon was a slaveholder and owner of 5,000 acres of land in Emanuel County. He had a school on his plantation. His faithful slave, Bassel Williamson, remained with him after the War, and some of Bassel Williamson's descendants still live on the land--a portion of which they now own--and attend the annual Solomon Williamson Family Reunion, held each first Sunday in October. The following is listed in Georgia's Black Book, as well as on the African and Freedmen Bureau sites on the Internet: MATHEW MOSELY made affidavit before A.W. STONE, U.S. Commissioner, that WILLIAM MOSELY, JOHN MOSELY, JOHN MOSELY, & ANN ELIZA MOSELY in the counties of Montgomery and Emanuel, Georgia, were cruelly assaulted by MARION TODD, RILEY WILLIAMSON, SOLOMON WILLIAMSON & JORDON FINLY and at different times other outrages were committed by the said accused; and further that the parties aggrieved, cannot obtain redress in the Civil Courts of the County or State, and pray for redress under "Civil Rights Bill" (copy herewith enclosed marked exhibit "B"). Warrants were issued for the arrests of the parties and placed in the hands of the U.S. Marshall, who, assisted by a detail of Soldiers, arrested RILEY WILLIAMS(Williamson) and JOHN FINLY who were brought before the Commissioner and held in $1000 bonds to appear at the next term of the District Court. MARION TODD was arrested but escaped; the other, SOLOMON WILLIAMSON, avoided arrest. I am informed by the District Attorney that the Witnesses were summoned, but that he was determined not to bring the case before the Grand Jury, believing that if he received an indictment, he could not make it hold under the "Civil Rights Bill" so as to secure a conviction. NOTE: Riley and Solomon were brothers. EMANUEL COUNTY REGISTRATION OF FREE PERSONS OF COLOR 1853-1870 - P. 58-59-60: State of Georgia Whereas James B. Kennedy Esq.
