Rogers Directions: Follow GA 56, 7 miles north of Swainsboro, Georgia. Turn left on Blun Road for ¼ mile. Turn right on Underwood Loop. Cemetery is on the left just past the first house. History: John M. Wiggins and/or his son, George W. Wiggins, donated the land for this cemetery. It is centrally located on the original 900 acre tract purchased by John M. Wiggins in 1849. The first known burial was Sarah J. [Wiggins] Rogers in March of 1878. She was the daughter of John and Sarah Wiggins. She was killed in a horse and buggy accident. The Wiggins family patriarch, John M. Wiggins was buried here in January of 1895. The most prominent headstone is that of George W. Wiggins located in the center of the cemetery on Row 2. There are two unusual burials in the Wiggins Cemetery. First, the left arm of David Larkin Davis was buried under one of the big cedar trees in the cemetery after it was amputated in a cotton gin accident in 1916. Also, the Davis/Wiggins family buried a time capsule near the edge of the old section of the cemetery in 1991. It is scheduled to be opened in 2016. A new section was opened in 1987 adjacent to the old cemetery and a dedication ceremony marked the beginning of a considerable restoration effort by family members. This work continued into the 1990s including repairing headstones and identifying all gravesites with markers. Efforts continue to identify several gravesites and preservation work is continuing.
