A. Hadden who resided about 8 miles from Swainsboro, and near Pine Grove Church, in this county, while washing in her yard under a mulberry tree yesterday afternoon about 3:30 o'clock, was struck and instantly killed by lightning. No sign is seen upon her person, except that a small portion of the hair on one side of her head is burned, and the flesh at this point is discolored. The tree under which she was standing, was also struck. Of course, such a death as this is always unexpected, but in this case it was particularly so, for no rain at all fell at Mrs. Hadden's home, and only a thin skirt of cloud hid from vision the clear sky when death came. Mrs. Hadden was a member of a good family, and leaves a husband and several children to mourn her sad death. Additional Comments: Mrs. Hadden was Zilpha Walden, wife of Thomas Abram Hadden. They are buried in Moxley Cemetary, near Swainsboro, Emanuel County. They had 11 children, the youngest of whom was Pearl, born soon before her mother's death. Thomas was the son of Newton Hadden and Elizabeth Brassell of Jefferson County. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
