George Washington Bateman, 81
ELLABELL--Funeral for George Washington Bateman, 81, was held at 2pm Saturday, 
Oct 6, 2001, from Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham 
Chapel in Pooler. Burial was in Lower Black Creek Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Oct 2, at his home.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Bateman had retired from Central of 
Georgia/Southern Railroad as an engineer. He served in the U.S. Army under 
General Patton during World War II. Mr. Bateman was a member of Ellabell 
United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of Solomon’s Masonic Lodge #1 
Savannah. He was also a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Annie R. Bateman of Ellabell; three 
daughters, Joyce Overstreet and Linda Conner of Ellabell and carol McGee of 
Pembroke; four grandsons and three granddaughters.
