Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler. Burial was in Lower Black Creek Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Oct 2, at his home. A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Bateman had retired from Central of Georgia/Southern Railroad as an engineer. He served in the U.S. Army under General Patton during World War II. Mr. Bateman was a member of Ellabell United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of Solomon’s Masonic Lodge #1 Savannah. He was also a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Annie R. Bateman of Ellabell; three daughters, Joyce Overstreet and Linda Conner of Ellabell and carol McGee of Pembroke; four grandsons and three granddaughters.
