B. L. Brinson, 78, Dies in Emanuel

Well-Known Figure in Development of Section Buried

SWAINSBORO, Ga., May 26

Benjamin Lester Brinson, 78, died at his home near Stillmore, at 2 o'clock this 
morning.  Mr. Brinson was always prominent in civic and political affairs and 
held many offices of trust.

He was born and reared in Emanuel county and lived within eight miles of his 
birthplace, on one of the largest and most beautiful plantations in Georgia.  
He was married to Miss Annie Lane, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. W. Lane, but 
she died on Christmas Eve 1931.  

Mr. Brinson was one of the first tax assessors of Emanuel county, and was a 
representative in the general assembly of Georgia in 1909-1910.  He was one of 
the charter members of the Stillmore Masonic lodge, but at the time of his 
death his membership was at Swainsboro.  He was also one of the original 
stockholders and directors of the Bank of Graymont, afterward becoming 
president.

He was one of the founders of Stillmore, with his cousin George M. Brinson, now 
of Savannah under the firm name of Brinson and Brinson, and this firm had 
immense holdings in timber and real estate in Tattnall and Emanuel counties.

Mr. Brinson is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Sumner, Surrency; Mrs. A. 
L. Sutton, Graymont, and Mrs. C. W. Perkins, Stillmore; four sons and two 
daughers, Dr. Ed Lane Brinson, Bellingham, Wash.; B. Lewis Brinson and John 
Ivey Brinson, Stillmore, and Remer
