B. Coxwell, Stillmore METTER, Ga., June 14 -- J. Benjamin Coxwell, aged 66, died at his residence one mile north of Stillmore at ten o'clock Monday night following a prolonged illness. Mr. Coxwell had been confined to his bed for a number of weeks with a malady, recovering from which was hopeless, but demonstrated Christian courage and foritude to the last. The son of Jeremiah J. Coxwell, a native of Texas, and Martha Jane Kitchens, also of Texas, he was born at Gibson, Ga., where his aprents migrated early after their marriage. Mr. Coxwell moved to Stillmore when a young man and continued his residence there. He was considered one of the pioneers and was identified with forward movements of his town and community. He married Mary Etta Cannady, a member of one of the oldest and most respected families of Emanuel County. Mr. Coxwell is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs. Floyd Smith, Stillmore, Mrs. A. R. Tyer, Louisville, Ky., Miss Erchie Coxwell, Stillmore, and Miss Cola Coxwell, Metter and one son, Devoy Coxwell, Atlanta, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from Stillmore Primitive Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with Elders S. M. Claxton of Wesley, A. R. Crumpton of Bellville, and R. H. Cooper officiating, with burial to follow in Warren Cemetery near Stillmore. Albert Durden, Ivey Durden, Alex Hughes, Melton Boyd, J. K. Waddell, and Bobbie Warren will serve as pallbearers. Additional Comments: Jeremiah was born 28 Apr 1872. His parents are born in Sand Hill Cemetery in Emanuel County, Ga. This obituary appears incorrect as to his parents being natives of Texas. They were in fact born in Georgia and most likely in Jefferson County.
