Lawson, 38, were held at the First Baptist Church in Swainsboro Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm. Dr. C. L. Leopard, pastor officiated, assisted by the Rev. Rollie Riner and the Rev. Vernard Robertson. Burial was in the City Cemetery. Mr. Lawson died in a local hospital Friday February 18, as the result of injuries sustained when he was struck by an oncoming automobile while he was changing a tire on his car. The accident occured ten miles south of Swainsboro on Highway 1. The car which struck Mr. Lawson was driven by Elmer Hailey Woods, an employee of Swift and Company. According to Peyton L. Youmans, Emanuel County Sheriff, the accident occured sometime between 2 and 3 am Fenruary 18. He also said that Mr. Lawson was apparently standing near the rear of his car when he was struck. He is survived by his wife the former Rose Alice Riner, two sons, Hughie Gerald Lawson and James Danny Lawson, two daughters, Mary Alice Lawson and Linda Sue Lawson. In addition to his wife and children, he is also survived by his father George W. Lawson and three brothers, Cordie Lawson of Adrian, Eugene Lawson and Cleveland Lawson of Miami, Fla. His mother was the late Mrs. Hattie Hart Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Swainsboro and the Brotherhood of the First Baptist Church as well as a member of the Swainsboro Exchange Club. Pallbearers were R. J. Waller, Woodruff Key, Darwin L. Wommack, Hubert Durden, James Mason, and George L. Smith II. T. C. Hunnicutt and son of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
