Malone famalone1948@yahoo.com April 29, 2007, 12:18 pm The Forest Blade - January 27, 1999 Funeral Services for Mrs. Myrtle Snell Mason, 98, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 1999, The First Baptist Church of Swainsboro. The Rev. Ed Thompson and G. A. Malone officiated. Interment was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died Saturday morning at her residence. Born in Johnson County, August 13, 1900, Mrs. Mason was the daughter of the late Otis Oceola "Bruce" and Ellen Lamb Snell. She had lived in Swainsboro 70 years. Mrs. Mason was a homemaker, farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church of Swainsboro. Mrs. Mason was one of the organizers of the Farm Bureau in Emanuel County. She also headed efforts to bring electric power to Emanuel County, traveling at her own expense from the south side of Swainsboro to Lyons signing up members for Rural Electric Administration. Mrs. Mason served as campaign manaager for Representative Hugh Peterson, Representative Price Preston, Senator Walter George and Senator Richard B. Russell. Myrtle Grove School in Johnson County was named for Mrs. Mason. She was the widow of Leonard Laurie Mason and the mother of the late Fred Grimes Mason and the late Joe(Joseph) Leonard Mason. Survivors include three sons, James B. Mason and Charles L. Mason both of Swainsboro and Jack D. Mason of Beech Island, S. C.; two daughters, Ann M. Sumner and Peggy M. Price, both of Swainsboro; 19 grandchildren; 34 great- grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jimmy Mason, Bobby Mason, Billy Mason, Freddie Mason, Stuart Mason, Leonard Mason, Tracy Mason, Chucky Mason, Shannon Mason, Herman Wilkes, great-grandsons,Jim Mason, Tim Mason, Michael Bender, Bobby Joe Godwin, Jason Wiley, Brian Harris, Billy Mason, Trey Mason, Cliff Mason, Scot Mason, Derek Mason, Bryant Mason and Matthew Mason. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Sconyers, J. W. Hooks, Velton Wilkes, Harry Phillips, Roy Clements, Smith Edenfield, Frank Wimberly, Roy Oglesby, Charles Renew, J.E. Moore and Roy Lee Smith.
