J. Overstreet, community leader in Emanuel, dies TWIN CITY, Ga. -- Samuel Joseph Overstreet, 81, former Emanuel County commissioner and banker, died at his residence. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Brinson Cemetery, with the Rev. Griffin Thompson officiating. A native of Campwell Hill, Ill., Mr. Overstreet was president emeritus and member of the board of directors of the Central Bank, Swainsboro, and was a former member of the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of the Swainsboro Shrine Club, Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, the Statesboro Hunting Club and was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, Annie Belle Brinson Overstreet; three sons, Samuel Joseph Overstreet Jr., Twin City, Benjamin Brinson Overstreet, Dawsonville, Ga., and Robert Lane Overstreet, Auburn, Ala.; and one daughter, Ann Overstreet Mulling, Midville, Ga.. Pallbearers will be Homer Moxley, Raymond Riner, Pete Powell, Edmond Curry, Jay Youngblood and Allen Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be the Central Bank board of directors and Shriners. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital and the American Cancer Society. Peebles-Curry Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
